Yesterday, I wrote about country music #takemehomecountryroads. One of the current hits that both my daughter and I love is @ThomasRhett's "Be a Light". My favorite verse reads, "In a place that needs change, make a difference - In a time full of noise, just listen - 'Cause life is but a breeze, better live it - In a place that needs a change, make a difference."
It's not always the heroic moments when you shine the brightest, but in the usually ordinary moments that quietly pass without anyone noticing - when YOUR light is at full capacity. It is in the humble service of others. It is in showing up for duty in the face of uncertainty. It is in the follow through on personal commitments. Its in the listening with an open heart to someone else's story. Its in, as Stephen Covey wrote, seeking 1st to understand - before attempting to be understood. It is in these moments that the darkness gives way.
No matter your circumstance, no matter your background, no matter your baggage, no matter your following - or the lack thereof, no matter who or what is against you - pause, take a breath, and then, in the week ahead, take a moment to be a light and chase away the darkness.
